PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT CONTEST
CREATIVE ASSIGNMENT
FAMILIES FIRST OFFERS SOLUTIONS & HOPE FOR THE PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE & NEGLECT
This Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest is to create a PSA that increases awareness of Families
First, encourages the viewer to call 1‐800‐CHILDREN, and creates a feeling of hope regarding the
prevention of child abuse and neglect.
In step one, applicants will submit their PSA ideas in writing. A panel of judges will then select three of
the submissions to move on to step two, the production stage. In step two, the three finalists' ideas will
be produced into three separate, 30‐second PSAs for broadcast with the goal of achieving the objectives
listed below.
CONTEST OBJECTIVES
- Awareness. Create knowledge of Families First and its mission to prevent child abuse and
neglect by providing support and education to parents and residential treatment to children in
need.
- Call to Action. Motivate viewers to call 1‐800‐CHILDREN (available in English and Spanish) for
more information, support and referrals in the community or to get involved to enact change.
- Feeling. Leave viewers with overall strong feelings of hope.
ELIGIBILITY & DATES
Any college or university student currently enrolled in schools of Journalism and/or Broadcasting is
eligible to submit an entry. Students may enter individually or as a team (maximum of five members per
team).
- Contest opens: Monday, January 16
- Application deadline: Friday, February 3
- Finalist selection notification: Friday, February 10
- PSA deadline: Friday, March 16
- Winner(s) announced: Friday, March 23
